I’m the oldest of 5 brothers and
2 sisters. Growing up, I didn’t have anyone to teach me to look way ahead in my
life or live by the cliché, ‘plan your work and work your plan.’ I had the best
parents whom I learned a lot from by just watching. As a family we attended
church 3 to 4 times a week.
My father was a cool, calm, and collective man who disciplined me the old-fashioned way. My mother--a courageous, hardworking, keen, humorous, and kind woman who helped me with my homework and kept plenty of good books around for me to read.
Shortly after high school I
joined the US Army with no intentions or idea that I would do 22 years. My
career in the military became the cornerstone of my life. Structure,
organization, discipline, and balance were instilled in me. I taught myself
what it took to be successful. Determination was and will always be in the mix
of what I want to be in this one life I have. Throughout the years I’ve learned
that it’s never too late to be what you want to be or even accomplish what you want
to accomplish.
For all you young thundercats
reading this, keep this saying in mind; “You’ll lose money chasing women, but
you’ll never lose women chasing money.” I wish someone would have told me that
at a young age. Giggles.
In the words of Oprah Winfrey, something to the effect of, make the best of
your life, make it valuable, and live it in the highest form possible, is what
I strive for every day.
Look way ahead, stay positive,
change your way of thinking, never become complacent, be determined, and do something EVERY
DAY in preparing for the years of your life ahead.
All the best to you!
