Old news, but I can't help but mention that I pleasantly spent all day with my mother on Thursday, 21 May. As the hour grew late, I walked her to her bed, tucked her in for the first time, and gave her a goodnight kiss on the cheek. She shedded a tear of joy. It was a first for me to act on such a lovely and kind thought, yet one of the greatest first of my life and hers--an unforgettable moment I'll cherish until the end of time. I didn't exactly read her a bedtime story, but we talked a long time of days gone back and childhood memories as she slowly fell asleep. Well, you know how mothers are. She did most of the talking as I reflected.
It took me a few birthdays to understand why she wants me to call her on MY birthday as a reminder. It's a birthday for her too.
Spend more time with your parents, especially if they are in their elderly years. They may not verbally express the appreciation, but you'll see it.
And if you've never tucked your mother in bed and gave her a goodnight kiss, do so and watch her reaction. Like mine, she just may shed a momentary tear of joy--a forever cherished memory that will be with her for all the remaining days of her life... and yours.
Mothers are dear. Show them love like they show you love all the days of your life.
